Description
In this module we will discuss four units. unit six explores Africa’s interactions with the outside world from 1500 to the 1880s, including early European exploration driven by the quest for gold and trade routes, and the impact of Portuguese, Spanish, and later European presence on African states. Key topics include the rise of legitimate trade, the establishment of white settlements in South Africa, and the role of European explorers and missionaries in shaping Africa’s modern history.
Unit seven focuses on Ethiopia’s historical dynamics, detailing the Christian Highland Kingdom under the Solomonic dynasty, the expansion of Islam and Muslim sultanates, and the socio-political landscape of southern and central Ethiopia.
Unit eight examines Ethiopia’s political and social changes from the mid-16th to mid-19th century, highlighting regional states and the challenges of instability versus consolidation in the Christian Kingdom.
Unit nine covers the Age of Revolutions (1789-1815), including the Industrial Revolution’s effects on Europe, the American War of Independence, the French Revolution, and Napoleon Bonaparte’s influence on European and global politics.
