Course Description
Welcome to Grade 10 Chemistry module, an engaging and comprehensive course designed to deepen your understanding of chemical principles and their real-world applications.
This module provides a comprehensive introduction to key chemical principles and their practical applications. Students will explore chemical reactions and stoichiometry, gaining skills in balancing equations and performing calculations. They will investigate solutions, including concentration and solubility, and study important inorganic compounds such as acids, bases, and salts. This module prepares students for advanced chemistry studies and real-world applications.
Course Objective
At the end of this module students will be able to:
- Understand the fundamental laws of chemical reactions and how they are applied;
- Develop skills in writing and balancing chemical equations;
- Develop skills in solving problems based on chemical equations;
- Understand oxidation-reduction reactions and analyze redox reactions by specifying the oxidizing agents and reducing agents, the substance reduced or oxidized;
- Understand the rate of chemical reaction, the state of a chemical equilibrium and factors affecting them
- Know the types of solutions;
- Understand the process of solution formation, the rate of solution, the heat of solution and solubility;
- Know how to solve problems involving the concentration of solutions and to express the result in various units;
- Understand the classification of inorganic compounds on the basis of their composition and/or their chemistry;
- Know the types of oxides and their chemical properties;
- Know the general properties, preparations and uses of common acids, bases and salts;
- Understand the differences between strong and weak acids/bases, and concentrated and dilute acids/bases;
- Develop skills in calculating, pH, pOH, H+ ion and OH– ion concentration of a solution;
- Know essential plant nutrients, fertilizers and pesticides;
