Run-on Sentences
A run-on sentence results from two or more complete sentences being connected without any punctuation.
–Compare and observe the differences for the given examples below.
Example 1:
Incorrect: I went to the store I forgot to buy milk.
Correct: I went to the store, but I forgot to buy milk.
Example 2:
Incorrect: She loves to read she reads every night before bed.
Correct: She loves to read; she reads every night before bed.
Example 3:
Incorrect: The sun was setting it was a beautiful sight.
Correct: The sun was setting, and it was a beautiful sight.
How to correct run-on sentences
- by making them two separate sentences;
- inserting a semi colon;
- using a comma and a coordinating conjunction.
